Year 6 Transition
Starting secondary school is an exciting milestone, and at Airedale Academy we work hard to make sure every child feels confident, supported, and ready for the journey ahead.
We believe that a successful transition begins long before pupils arrive on their first day. Once a place has been allocated, we work closely with our primary schools to get to know each child as an individual, their strengths, interests, and the things that will help them settle quickly into life at Airedale.
Our well-established transition programme includes a range of activities designed to make the move to secondary school smooth and enjoyable.
Pupil Induction
Every Year 6 pupil who has been offered a place is invited to take part in our transition events in the summer term. These include our ‘Year 6 Induction Evening’ and ‘Year 6 Transition Day’, where pupils meet their new form group, make new friends, and get to know the staff who will guide and support them during their time at Airedale Academy.
Parent Induction
We also hold a ‘Year 6 Induction Evening’ to welcome families and share key information about the Academy’s routines, expectations, and values. It’s a great opportunity to meet the Headteacher, senior staff and your child’s Year Leader, ask questions, and feel part of the Airedale community from the very start.
Ongoing Support
Our commitment to transition doesn’t end in September. Form tutors and pastoral staff continue to support pupils closely as they move through the Academy, building strong, lasting relationships with both pupils and their families.
At Airedale Academy, we’re proud of the care, communication, and community spirit that make starting secondary school a positive and memorable experience for every child.
