At Airedale Academy, the safety and wellbeing of every pupil is our highest priority. We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils in our care.
Our first responsibility is to keep every child safe, healthy, and happy. We aim to:
- Protect pupils from maltreatment or neglect
- Prevent the impairment of their physical or mental health or development
- Ensure they grow up in safe, supportive circumstances
- Take action to enable all pupils to achieve the best possible outcomes
We believe safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. All staff are trained, vigilant, and dedicated to creating a culture where pupils feel safe, valued, and supported. We have clear and robust policies and procedures in place to identify and respond swiftly to any concerns. Every member of staff receives regular safeguarding training, and pupils know there are trusted adults they can speak to at any time.

Working Together to Keep Children Safe
We work closely with parents, carers, and external partners, including the Wakefield & District Safeguarding Children’s Board, to provide early help and coordinated support when needed.
Wakefield Families Together
Wakefield Families Together brings local services into one place, making it easier for families to access help early. Whether you’re worried about attendance, mental health, family relationships, or other challenges, support is available through your child’s school, local Family Hub, or community setting.

Youth Hubs – Wakefield Families Together
Youth Hubs are friendly and accessible places that provide support to young people aged 11-24 and their families. The Youth Hub that supports Carleton High is The Hut Youth Hub. You can contact them directly for support by phone (01977 727622) or via email at youthhubthehut@wakefield.gov.uk.
Team Around School (TAS)
The Team Around School approach brings professionals together to provide joined-up support for children and families. If a concern is raised, with your agreement, a request for support can be made and discussed at a TAS meeting. The team will identify the most appropriate services and create a coordinated plan of support, which is then shared with you.
