At Airedale Academy, care is at the heart of everything we do. It means more than kindness and support, it also means having high expectations for every pupil, ensuring that all pupils can thrive in a calm and purposeful environment.
Our values of Care, Aspire and Succeed guide our approach to pastoral care. We care by supporting every pupil’s wellbeing, but also by setting the standards that help them to succeed because pupils feel safest and happiest when they know what is expected of them and when learning is free from low-level disruption.
We expect all pupils to follow our three universal rules: Ready, Respect, Safe.
These simple, consistent expectations ensure that classrooms are positive, focused places where teachers can teach and pupils can learn.
Every member of staff plays a role in pastoral care, ensuring that pupils are supported, challenged, and encouraged every day. Our pastoral structure is organised by year groups, with Year Leaders, form tutors, and a dedicated pastoral team working together to provide strong relationships, early support, and clear guidance.
Form Tutors
Each pupil belongs to a tutor group led by a form tutor who sees them daily and provides a consistent point of contact. Form tutors get to know their pupils well, supporting their personal, social, and academic development, and maintaining close communication with parents and carers.
Year Leaders
Year Leaders oversee the wellbeing, behaviour, attendance, and academic progress of their year group.
They work with form tutors, families, and support staff to promote positive attitudes, strong attendance, and high aspirations. When pupils need extra support, Year Leaders ensure it is provided quickly and effectively.
At Airedale Academy, we know that care and high expectations go hand in hand. Through strong relationships, clear routines, and a culture of mutual respect, we help every pupil to Care, Aspire, and Succeed.
We also know that this success is built on strong partnerships with parents and carers. We place great importance on parents’ involvement in their child’s education, recognising that a positive partnership between home and the school supports pupils’ personal, academic, and emotional development throughout their time at the Academy.
Parents and carers play a vital role in:
- Monitoring learning – discussing progress, homework, and achievements with their child.
- Fostering values and character – reinforcing positive attitudes and supporting their child’s personal development.
- Supporting organisation – ensuring their child is prepared for learning, with the right equipment, uniform, and punctuality.
- Motivating and raising aspirations – encouraging their child to aim high and believe in their potential.
We believe that this partnership approach plays a key part in our pupils’ success. Our commitment to pastoral care, combined with strong collaboration between school and home, creates the conditions for every pupil to feel cared for, supported, and able to achieve their potential.
