Airedale Academy student council have taken part in a Skype conversation with the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, this morning.
They asked him over 20 questions which included "What advice would he give to someone getting into politics?" His response was to research all the political parties and then get involved with them, to also get involved with public speaking and campaigning. He also said that they should strive to do as well as they possibly can in school as this would increase their life chances and not restrict them.
He told us also that one of the things he had learnt over his time in parliament is respect and respecting the points of view of other people, even when he didn't agree with it, and making sure that you listen to the opinion of others.
He also told us that his favorite biscuit was a dark chocolate digestive...... who knew!!!
He was very open and with the students and gave them an insight into his day-to-day life along with his role within parliament.
