There are now a number of ways which you can train to be a teacher, including traditional postgraduate and employment-based routes. ASCL have produced a useful guide - click on the link below to download it.

We have a long tradition of welcoming students who are training to be teachers and have provided placements to ITT students from a range of organisations.

We work in close partnership with two of the area’s top school-based ITT providers - the Wakefield Regional Partnership for Initial Teacher Training (WRPITT), an Ofsted ‘outstanding’ rated provider, and the Outwood Institute for Education, a nationally-recognised teaching school - as well as several local universities, to offer opportunities for trainee teachers to gain direct experience of teaching young people.

Over the years we have also helped some of our own support staff qualify as teachers.

If you’re interested in training to be a teacher, please contact your preferred ITT provider directly in the first instance.

Routes into Teaching

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Airedale Academy. The school is bursting with a positive environment and the supportive atmosphere created by the staff has given me the confidence to tackle what can be a challenging course head on.”
